The “Traveler” spinning wheel

The Ashford "Traveler"

You can’t show off your spinning

skills unless you can get your

spinning wheel out of the house.

The Traveler Double Treadle was Ashford’s 1977 answer to an ever

changing world.

When the art of spinning progressed from a household necessity to a

pass-time for artisan fiber enthusiasts came a need to get the

spinning wheel out of the house and into the public.

The Traveler was specifically built to easily fit into the trunk of a car,

or as the New Zealanders called it “the boot”

The idea of building up instead of out and keeping the profile straight

and flat  allows for easy storage and conservation of space.

However, don’t think for a moment that they sacrificed the integrity

of their trade or the reliability of their product.  From the ease of the

double treadle to the adaptability of numerous add-on’s the Traveler

is the very attractive “little wheel that could.”
